south of croydon raised christian sibthorpe (aka a1 bassline) sent over a few things over the last 12 months that really had me paying attention. but it was jessica (j. phlip) ended up being the first one to drop falsehood at the spring dirtybird party in sf which pretty much sealed the deal. it just smashed the room to bits. later on i met christian in person when he helped me do a live radio show at rinse fm in london along with ben westbeech and we agreed there that dirtybird would put these two tracks out.a1 claims to have been heavily influenced by early metalheadz and you can really here it on these tunes. while buoyancy is a smooth pulsing affair that really shines in the deeper mixes, falsehood (which we are re-releasing from a1s tighten up label) really buries the hatched in your brain with bits and pieces of 808s, breaks and house hi-hats all forged together like hot iron.

after two buzzing releases, senzen is quickly getting recognition it deserves. but third time is the charm, right? well, at least in this case. senzen 3 title track, >gonna b<, is based on studio sessions of label boss benno blome together with his long time friend armin engel, who has worked on projects with fela kutis band rhythm taxi & jimi tenor, and had a show on jazzradio berlin for years. the track itself has influences from both producers. tech house meets jazz, what a fascinating concept! freestyle drumming, keyboard jams and effects tied together, creating an original approach to club music. remixers of >gonna b<, marcin czubala (mobilee) and jin choi (contexterrior, private gold, archipel), are two of the hottest producers at the moment. after his excellent streak of releases on mobilee, marcin makes an outstanding debut on senzen and delivers a deeply rooted house remix concentrating on tiny tweaks and variations while carrying them solidly throughout the track. jin, on the other hand, doesn�t let functionality stand in the spotlight of his remix. his music is supposed to touch emotionally and to move the head and the body - and believe me, it does!

on their last album franz and jakob aka format b were to be found covered in soot and coal, firing up the engines of the dance locomotive, now they have gone greener and swapped over to wind power and are fishing the >restless< oceans of the world. tirelessly the two sailors work on the deck disregarding the cold and the weather, pulling in the nets filled with floundering hits. this time they have spiced up the bait with the amazing voice of fran on >liquid< who turns into a working class siren and manages to rock the boat properly with track 2. keeping with the maritime theme the boys have used a harmonica on >socks and sandals< and a piano on >piano man<. classic format b can be found on >atomizer< and >oversexed< � kicking man high bass beats to thrill the four quarter beat fans, and >biker meth< is going to keep you dancing till noon (at least). even with the pressures of jet setting, label management, party organisation, building a studio, and the romantic needs of their girlfriends they have still managed to finish their first formatik album to their complete satisfaction and are extremely proud to present the first artist album on formatik records. ahoi and enjoy people!
